So, you wanna talk cake!
All of our cake and buttercream is made from scratch, good old fashioned flour, milk, eggs and butter.
Our cakes arrive chilled from the fridge, like butter – our cakes are best served at room temperature.
Let your cake stand at room temperature for an 1-2 hours to enjoy buttercream at its softest point, or enjoy firm straight from the fridge!
Consultations & Tastings
Consultations are complementary at Kake, if your not looking to taste cake this a great way to come in, sit down, and chat about what your looking for.
The best way to prepare for a consultation is to bring any swatches you have for colours, or textures your planning on using, invites if you wish to tie this into the design, or print outs of the cake design you have in mind! Extra invitations for inspiration, colour swatches, flower choices, monograms and pinterest boards! What ever you are using in your planning process can be helpful in the consultation!
If your not sure and do not have any of the above, not to worry! We can still work through what ideas you have so far and design a cake for you!
We are currently taking tasting and consultation appointments from October to May the following year. Because of the nature of our shop we are quite busy from June to September with weddings and deliveries, and do not always have time to book tastings and consults!
Email or call us to book in a tasting!
Our tastings are designed for two people but we can comfortably fits 3 guests.
Tastings are offered for $40 for two guests and include three flavours of cake and three flavours of buttercream to try, with a $15 credit towards the final order

6″ Buttercream cutting cakes start at $90
Two tier cakes (6″ + 8″) 36 servings start at $271
*Sheet cakes are great for making up for servings with out increasing the size of the cake. Sheet cakes are often more budget friendly then increasing the cake size or having cupcakes. There are a couple different options for sheet cakes, to mimic the cake being presented option c would be the best choice as guests would not know the difference between sheet cake and the presented cake.
a. 1 layer of cake + buttercream surface = $2.75/serving
b. 2 layers of cake + 1 layer of filling + buttercream surface = $3/serving
c. 3 layers of cake + 2 layers of filling + buttercream surface = $3.25/serving
Our sheet cakes come in square sizes with servings for 18, 32, 50, and 72.
*sheet cakes are not meant for presentation, and are taken straight to the kitchen when delivered*
Style Of Cake
There are two basic options for the surface (outside) of your cake.
We use a Swiss Meringue buttercream on all of our cakes. Its silky smooth, not overly sweet and does not crust. Our buttercream is naturally a soft ivory colour, because of our ingredients. Butter naturally being a soft yellow colour, and real vanilla naturally being brown. Please take this into consideration when looking at our cakes with your colour scheme. Buttercream designs are not as detailed and not completely 100% perfect, there are often air bubbles or scrape makes on the surface. The best way to get an idea of what is possible for buttercream cakes, is to do a quick search under “buttercream cakes” in google.
If you are thinking of using bright or deep colours on the cake, one thing to remember is that buttercream has a tendency to stain mouths, teeth, fingers and clothes.
Fondant is a malleable, chewy marshmallow like icing.
Fondant will give you a flawless surface as well as more design options. If you are looking for a true white cake, fondant would be your best bet! We use fondant to do our more complex designs as well as any sugar flowers/greenery.
Fondant tends not to stain mouths, teeth and fingers as much as brightly or darkly coloured buttercream, but there is always a possibly of colour transfer.
Fondant is placed on a layer of buttercream, if you are not a fan of fondant and peel it off the cake you will still have a buttercream cake underneath.
The possibilities are endless!
Naked cakes are trending full force this year! Most of our cakes at KAKE are not a true naked cake, but a semi naked cake. This seals in the cake with a thin layer of buttercream to prevent the cake from drying out.
Rice paper can add a lot of softness and texture to a cake as well, take a look through our Modern section in the gallery to be inspired!
Taking into consideration the design of the cake and your budget will depend on if sugar flowers or real flowers are best option for you. Our cake prices do not include any florals. Depending on the style and size of the flower, sugar flowers can range from $15-$30 each. If real floral elements work best for your design, we work closely with the florists in Canmore and will typically have the flowers picked up or dropped off the day before the event.
Sugar flowers often have wires and or Styrofoam incorporated into the base of the flower, while we do make the petals, leaves and details of the flower from sugar we do not recommend eating them as part of your dessert. All of our flowers will dry out completely, allowing you to keep them as a token from your event.
All of our cakes come a standard 4.25″ high. They contain 3 layers of cake and two layers of filling.
The filling can be a different flavour from the surface of the cake. For example, you can have a chocolate cake, with strawberry buttercream filling, that is then decorated with vanilla buttercream on the surface.
If your cake is two tiers or more, you are more then welcome to choose a different flavour for each tier.
Our cake servings are based off of 1″ x 2″ x 4.25″ high servings, the servings amounts are all dependent on how the cake is cut.
Below you can take a look at out most popular sizes.
The first number containing the total amount of servings, and the bottom number is the amount with out serving the top tier.
How much do I need to order?
The first thing to think about is if you would like to keep the top tier for your anniversary.
The second important thing to think about is how much you will be feeding your guests. If your meal includes a dessert option or a dessert buffet then you will need less servings. Typically if cake is your only dessert you would allow for one serving per guest. If you are having another dessert option we recommend 50-70% of the servings to guest count.
Regular cupcakes – 1 per person
Mini cupcakes -1.5 per person
(So cute and bite sized! Some people will have one, other will have two)
We also recommend keeping the flavour combinations to a minimum, the more options you have, the more likely it is that guests will try more then one. This will affect your numbers for ordering.
We have a selection of cake and cupcakes stands for hire. The stand is brought out with the cake when delivered.
Stands must be returned to the store the day after, if you are not able to return a pick up fee can be added on for next day stand pick up.
If stands are returned damaged or broken, then double the rental charge is billed.
Our shop maxes out at so many orders per week, typically Friday, Saturday and Sunday are delivery days and we work on a first come first serve basis. If you are opting to pick up your cake, before noon or after 5:00 are our pick up hours on weekends. Monday to Thursday pick up times are more flexible.
How soon should I book?
We max out at so many orders per week, and tend to book up for the busy months (June-October) months before. As soon an you know what you are looking for we recommend booking as soon as possible.
How to guarantee my order?
To officially book in we take a 50% non refundable deposit, and the remaining amount two weeks before the event.
Once a quote has been given, the quote is guaranteed for three months. After this time the quote is subject to price increases.
If you are unsure about the number of servings you will need, the quantity can be adjusted closer to the event date. For a decrease in size, up to one month prior to the event the order can be decreased by 25% with out a penalty. If more then 25% the charge will be equal to 50% of the decreased dollar value.
If a booking is made more then 16 months in advance, prices are subject to change, based on market value.
How Do I cut this cake!?!
Here is a basic guide to cutting a round cake. Cakes larger then 7″ are usually cut in a grid fashion as opposed to a pie shaped slice. This guide is based off os 1″ by 2″ cake servings.
How do I store my cake?
Your cake is perfectly happy to sit out for a full day on the counter, any longer and we recommend storing in the fridge.
If you would like to freeze your cake for a later date simply place in the freezer for an hour uncovered. Remove when the buttercream is solid and wrap in cling film twice. Place into Tupperware container to enjoy later! If cake does not fit into tupperware container – continue eating until desired size remains. 😉
